Ye Olde Oil

Newsletter of the Rotary Club of St. Matthews

Date:                           July 11, 2007

Location:                    Breckenridge Inn

Time:                          Every Wednesday at 12:15pm

Call To Order:

President Cheryl Rago opened the meeting and Skip Thorpe led us in the prayer and the pledge.

Visitors:

 Bull introduced our visitors:

1        Jim Rago (New Pres’ support system; by consensus his return is requested often)

2        Peter Bufone (?)  a guest of Porter’s

3        Joe Huff  with The Girlscouts returned for a second visit and has submitted an application for membership

4        Ted Lowenberger our frequent guest from the northeast (and Bull’s personal whipping boy)

5        Dave Cobb (Goodwill).

Door Prizes:

Door Prizes were won by: Tony Bellucci. (caramels), Ted Lowenberger (wine bottle holder donated by D.A.) and Dave Pearson (Homearama tickets).

Bull started the “singing” of When you’re smiling and was greatly supported at the finale by Jim Rago (just one of the reasons we need him to return).

Happy Bucks:

Marty was happy to now be “past” president

Pam was happy to have spent time in North Dakota with her mother, daughter (Toni) and 2 granddaughters (4 generations).

Joe Huff was happy to be getting married Sat. (at least he is happy now)

Alan is happy to be “back together with Theresa” (did we miss something?) and to finally have his past president’s badge.

Ted is happy to have a good visit home and that the newest addition to his family is now sleeping through the night.

Dave Cobb is happy that our club gave a donation to Goodwill

Skip Thorpe is happy that the club gave him the Owen Pillans award and that Marty “cooked” the books to make that happen and that Cheryl brought Jim to help with the singing..

Tony Bellucci is happy that his golf game is improving.

David Pearson is happy that he can get into the bathroom now after spending 20 days with his granddaughter and Penny in England and Paris.

Bull is happy that his has a great granddaughter (his first) and told us that Senior Citizens was thankful for the donation our club made.

D.A. was thankful for all the past presidents of our club in attendance.

Mike Miller was willing to pay to hear “Big Al’s” new rap song (since that didn’t happen, maybe Mike didn’t pay?).

Fine Master:

Cliff was back in full force, noting that the way to beat a fine was to make note of being a Rotarian (as in the article indicating our new officers) and then assessing fines on:

Lisa Butcher (moving her office), D.A. for his 150 year alumni weekend picture (D.A. you are holding up nicely for your age), Bob Thieman for “being one of the Sopranos and not getting “whacked” (picture in the Voice in full regalia).

Announcements:

1        Zoo concerts – Cheryl announced that most interest was in the July 21 concert but that several were also interested in Sat. (14th).  She will hold “her ground” for you if you let her know you are coming.

2        Marty announced that the St. Matthew’s Expo (known to many as Sampling St. Matthews) is Thursday.  We will be serving mini pancakes (made by Judy and Marty) and passing out cards as reminders of the pancake breakfast.  Please help if you can (we need people to visit the booths promoting Rotary as well as to pass out pancakes).

3        DA reminded the golfers that the Salvation Army golf tournament is Mon. and more golfers from our club would be nice.
